Galactic Zoo

There’s no life left in these streetlights

They’re tired

As am I

Walking under with heavy feet

My heart weighing them down

My mind an equal accomplice

The lights flicker

The bugs meander about my head

Every damn thing surrounding hangs suspended

Like asphalt balloons with strings rooted deep in the mantle

Of an earth that realized we quit caring a long time ago

Now it’s a sad gorilla in a corner cage at the galactic zoo

As we spectate from within

Never aware we built the bars
